NEWSFLASH 20th March - Portswood closure
Solent GP Surgery will be temporarily closing the Portswood site from Friday 20 March at 2pm. This is due to reduced staffing levels because of the Coronavirus outbreak.
Patients can still use the Portswood telephone number (0300 300 2020) and are encouraged to contact us online where possible using eConsult available on our website.
Staff who would usually work at the Portswood site will either be working from home (due to self-isolation) or at the Nicholstown site.
Any prescriptions or sick notes which are due to be collected will be available to be picked up from our Nicholstown site at the Royal South Hants hospital from Monday 23 March at 8am.
Phone line testing
We're aware that some patients are currently experiencing issues getting through to the surgery this week. The telecoms teams from Solent NHS Trust are running tests to try and improve our phone system as well as the connection for patients. This is to hopefully solve some of the ongoing issues that we've had with our phones. Please be patient during this time. If you get disconnected, please keep trying to get through. Staff are doing their best to answer all calls and will assist you as soon as they can. We thank you for your understanding.
Recycling your inhalers? - Green Impact For Health
It's important that we all do our bit for the environment. Solent GP Surgery is working towards obtaining accreditation from the Royal College of GP's Green Impact for Health scheme to improve our environmental impact.
You too can help.
Do you have inhalers at home? Some inhalers release gasses called hydroflurocarbons into the atmosphere and account for nearly 4% of the entire NHS greenhouse gas footprint. You can recycle your inhalers and help to mitigate the environmental impact of inhalers.
Visit https://pharmacyfinder.completethecycle.eu/index to find your local pharmacy that is participating in recycling inhalers.
Changes to prescribing for minor conditions
"Why can't I get a prescription for paracetamol?"
The guidance on prescribing medications for conditions that can be treated with over the counter medications has changed. Many of these medications can be bought easily at the pharmacy or your local supermarket. For more information see this handy leaflet
Occupational Therapy Clinics
We have started occupational therapy clinics at the surgery. If you're struggling at work with health problems or are currently off sick from work then this might be for you. For more information and a leaflet, please click here.
At an earlier Patient Participation Group, we were really pleased to have a presentation from Solent NHS Trust's Physio team. Did you know that you can self refer to the physios for ongoing joint or muscular pain?
Click HERE to get access to the self-referral site or to download the form. There's also access to other places that you can self-refer on our website. Click HERE for more.
